GIANNI MAINI, A VISIONARY MAN

A project that resembles
to a dream

An ancient building full of stories, an entrepreneur in love with the history of his country, two chefs with innovative ideas:
Borgo Impero Inn and NOVO Osteria

The building of NOVO Osteria has a long and troubled history dating back to the early 11th century: originally a convent, part of a church and then an inn with the post for changing horses, when the Molato dam (one of the first hydroelectric dams to rise in Italy) was built in 1928, it took on the name “Locanda Impero” which then remained until its closure fixing itself in the memory of the citizens. In the postwar years it became the place where the artists, dancers and staff of the nearby Capitol theater used to stay with the consequence of becoming a symbol of Piacenza’s “Dolce vita.”

In the 2000s the Locanda was closed and remained so until Gianni Maini, an entrepreneur from Seminò who was the soul of the project, decided to bring it back to life, crowning his dream of returning a building of symbolic value to Borgonovo by putting the inn back into operation, which today consists of a seven-room accommodation facility, Locanda Borgo Impero, and a restaurant with a wine cellar, NOVO Osteria.

An area accustomed to excellence

NOVO Osteria opens its doors to a new season of flavors and fragrances under the leadership of two young kitchen enthusiasts. Sara Frellicca and Giorgio Paratici, the osteria’s two new chefs, cross paths with Gianni Maini to continue NOVO’s path of protecting traditions and seeking new contaminations.

THE VILLAGE OF REDISCOVERED TASTES

New life for a place and its flavors

The walls of the osteria tell stories: restored and consolidated with care and passion, they underscore the depth of NOVO Osteria’s connection to Borgonovo’s history; the restaurant, which has changed in nature and name through the centuries, now hosts a project that feeds on this history. The rediscovery of flavors travels hand in hand with the rediscovery of bricks, river stones, wooden beams, and lime, and this small hamlet has many stories to tell. NOVO Osteria is a tribute to memory without nostalgia; quality can never be separated from knowledge of what has been.
